Harrison Conner, Lewis Martin and Jordan Muzio, who are currently studying the HND in Creative Media Production, all submitted entries for the competition along with the rest of their class. The three of them were lucky enough to be nominated for the top forty of Enter the Pitch, fighting off national competition.
Enter the Pitch the opportunity to pitch your short film idea and win a budget of £25,000, for production support and advice. The competition was open to anybody over the age of 18 in the UK, the only constraint that the students had to conform to was that their idea had to be based on a biblical story.
The competition is split into three phases. The first phase is where the forty best entries are selected by the judging panel from all of the submissions. Then over a two week period the general public can vote for their favourite short film idea. At the end of the two week process the top five public voted short films progress to the next round. A further five entries are selected by the judging panel and in total ten ideas will make it into the next phase. The top ten individuals will then go down to Pinewood Studios for a two day workshop with a Hollywood script writing guru, where they will be provided with further guidance on developing their idea. Finally, the ten finalists will pitch their idea to a film industry panel.
The best three ideas will all be provided with funding to make their ideas a reality, with the winner being awarded £25,000. Additionally, the winner will be flown to Hollywood in autumn 2014 for a week. During this trip they will have a private meeting with Producer Ralph Winter (X-Men, Fantastic Four) who will watch and give feedback on the short film. They will also get to meet other industry professionals. During their stay, there will be free time to see the sights and sounds of Hollywood. They will also be given a total of $500 spending money.
