‘Wings of a Swan’ is very honest and personal account of one of our students’ journey from an orphanage in 90’s Romania to the present day. The short documentary mixes personal footage from the orphanage with present day interviews with family where they reflect on the experience.
The film has been shortlisted for The Bang! Film Festival Nottingham and Selected for The Cannes Film Festival 2012.
Myself and Dumitru Langham – BSc (Hons) Digital Film Technology – attended the 2013 Cannes Film Festival this weekend and had the experience of a lifetime. Not only did we see celebrities, talk to top industry movie moguls and walk up the famous red-carpeted steps, we also experienced one of the wettest days in Cannes history:
That said, the following day was reborn in beautiful Cote d’ Azur sunshine:
The reason we were primarily there was to support and promote Dumitru’s short documentary film – ‘Wings of a Swan’ – that had been accepted for the Short Film Corner category of the Festival. Dumitru had already received positive feedback via the Cannes database and will continue to garner viewings and feedback for up to 6 months after the festival closes. He also met fellow short film makers from different parts of the world, where feedback and personal experiences were shared.
Dumitru, also took the opportunity to garner new information about the film commissioning process and network with top executives in the International Film Market; swapping names and contact details.
Lastly, we used our exclusive badges – only for professionals accepted for the festival – to attend press conferences; see Coen Brothers, Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan; access back stage areas; and, walk up the famous Red Carpet Steps to the Grand Théâtre Lumière, to watch the films in contention for the Palme d’or.
All in all a very exciting, once in a life-time experience.
